max's adventures in an ironic, fast and beautiful world
that’s how to do it at comedy central:
At 1:38, right after Mr. Colbert says “appreciate,” I make my basic cable debut by shouting out “Stephen!” at maximum volume. Now, to the untrained ear, it might sound like I’m shouting out “Uggha!” but I can assure you that I didn’t use “Uggha!” until later on in the program.
Other highlights:
- Front row, closest seat to Mr. Colbert. The secret: be lucky.
- He does a Q and A before the taping out of character.
- Tell them it’s your mom’s birthday and be really cute about it and they’ll give your mom free stuff.
- He flubbed a name and stopped taping about three minutes in. We redid the entire opening, which means that the “Stephen!” you hear is the second “Stephen!” I performed. (I want to go on the record and say that I was more pleased with the first “Stephen!” Oh well, creative differences happen.)
